Black Meteors Thrash Togo 5-1 In 1st Leg Qualifier For Tokyo 2020

on

Kwabena Owusu’s hat trick coupled with two other goals from Nassam Ibrahim and Osman Bukari were enough to give the Black Meteors all three points in their emphatic 5-1 win over Togo in the African U-23 Championship first leg qualifier played at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

Making is first ever debut for Ghana, Kwabena Owusu broke the deadlock in the 19 minute. The Black Meteors increased the tempo of the game with several attacks into the vital area of Togo and won a penalty in the process after Joe Fameyeh was brought down in the box.

The player picked himself up and took the kick only for Togolese goalkeeper to make a brilliant save to deny them a second goal.

Buoyed by the heroics of the goalkeeper, the visitors were on the front foot dictating the pace of the game and it came as little surprise when they grabbed the equalizer in the 33rd minute through Klidje Thibault.

1-1 was how the first half ended.

Back from recess Ghana sprung into life with Osman Bukari restoring the lead for the hosts.

Two quick goals by Kwabena Owusu in the 72nd and 73rd minutes saw Ghana jump into a 4-1 lead.

Nassam Yakubu put the final nail in the coffin of Togo with the 5th goal in the 85th minute.

5-1 was how the game ended with Ghana having one foot in the next round of the qualifiers despite having to play the second leg on Saturday December 22 in Lome.
