Head coach of the Black Queens, Bashir Hayford has admitted that though they did their best to qualify to the semi final of the AWCON 2018, their best wasn’t good enough.
Ghana, hosts of this year’s competition crashed out of the competition after failing to amass enough points to see them through to the next stage of the competition.
They beat Algeria 1-0, lost 2-1 to Mali before drawing 1-1 with Cameroon, thus having 4 points out of the three games. The result meant that Ghana was third on the Group A table after Cameroon (7) and Mali (6).
And this according to the coach was how God it.
“We did our best, but this is how far God wants us to reach, and we have nothing to say. The girls did their best but it wasn’t good enough. Since Tuesday when we lost against Mali, lot of dignitaries visited our camp and motivated the girls ahead of today’s game and you could see that they gave it their all.”
“All is not lost as a nation because we have identified certain aspects of the team that needs to be worked on. The girls have done well. There are many more competitions that lie ahead of us so we are looking to build on this feat and move on.”
“It wasn’t one of the best games we played in this tournament and the fans even saw that. Sometimes in football these things happen. Let’s not apportion blame to any player. We played as a team and failed to progress to the next stage as a team.”
“It is not in my position to say whether I am staying on as the head coach of the Black Queens because I have superiors. But whatever happens I am more than willing to continue to impact my knowledge to the nation.”
