“We Were Given $20,000 As Appearance Fee Not $80,000”: Black Stars Striker

Ghanaian attacker, Kwabena Owusu has stated categorically that none of his teammates received $80,000 as appearance fee at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament but rather $20,000.

This revelation comes days after it was reported that the players each pocketed a cool $80,000 as an appearance fee. But the Black Stars new boy said it’s never true as they all received $20,000 each.

“I was shocked when I heard the rumour that we received $80,000 as an appearance fee. We did not get $80,000 as appearance fee, our appearance fee was $20,000” he said.

According Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, it cost the state $187,050 to cater for the per diem of the 23 players, while a total of $965,405 was paid to the playing body as winning bonus.

Despite crashing out at the Round of 16, the Black Stars players were paid almost the same amount as their Senegalese counterparts who earned a total of $51,000 each for placing second in the competition.
